On 11 May 2003, Manchester City bid an emotional farewell to Maine Road, their home for 80 years, before moving to the Etihad Stadium.
The final match at the atmospheric ground saw a sell-out crowd watch City fall 1-0 to Southampton. Club legend Shaun Goater captained the side in his last game for the team, adding to the poignant atmosphere. Acclaimed photographer Kevin Cummins was on hand to document the historic occasion.
Though the result was a defeat, the day remains unforgettable for those who attended. To mark the 20th anniversary, a special gallery featuring many of Kevin’s iconic images has been assembled, capturing the essence of a ground the club was proud to call home for eight decades.
