Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov has booked his spot in the fourth round of the ATP 1000 tournament in Rome, overcoming Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp in a thrilling three-set battle.

Khachanov, ranked 54th in the world, secured a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory over the Dutchman in a match that lasted 2 hours and 27 minutes. The 29-year-old Russian will now face Croatian qualifier Dino Prižmić in the next round. Prižmić caused a massive upset in the second round by defeating world No. 4 Novak Djokovic of Serbia.

Khachanov currently sits at No. 15 in the ATP rankings and has won seven career titles. The Rome tournament, with a prize pool of €8.235 million, is one of the most prestigious events on the ATP calendar, second only to the Grand Slams and the ATP Finals. The competition runs until May 17.

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain is absent this year due to injury.
