Former Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators, and New Jersey Devils defenseman P.K. Subban has helped raise $10 million for the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
Subban first expressed his desire to support the hospital in 2015. On Saturday, the hospital’s press service announced that the former NHL star’s charitable foundation had fully met its obligations under the “Unexpected Ways to Heal” campaign. The foundation noted that this initiative represents the largest single donation by a professional athlete in Canadian history.
Thanks to Subban’s efforts, approximately 100,000 children have received care, the organization emphasized.
“It wasn’t easy. There were certainly tough moments. Did I have doubts? No. Because I made a promise, and I was always going to keep it. When a 23-year-old takes on such responsibility, it raises questions from others. To all the doubters, I say: believe in yourself rather than doubting others. You need the courage to believe in yourself and that the impossible is possible. And we proved it,” Subban said.
According to the charitable foundation, Subban’s involvement went beyond fundraising. He regularly visited the hospital, building warm relationships with patients, their families, and staff.
