Samsung Lions infielder Lee Jae-hyun delivered a powerful home run in his return from injury, igniting an emotional wave of tributes after a young fan was found deceased on the same day.
The 39.5-degree launch angle blast, his first home run of the season, came on Wednesday during a game against the LG Twins at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul. Lee had been sidelined for three weeks with a back injury.
Earlier that day, an elementary school student identified only as “A” was found dead two days after going missing at Jugwangsan National Park. The child was wearing Lee’s Samsung uniform at the time of his disappearance. Fans took to social media to express their condolences, with many saying the young fan would have been thrilled to see his favorite player hit a towering shot.
“If only he could have seen this game,” one fan wrote, as Samsung supporters shared their grief. The Samsung Lions organization also issued a statement on social media, offering heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

Lee’s home run came in a meaningful context, as the young fan’s untimely death coincided with his return to the lineup. The baseball community rallied around the memory of the child, with the team and fans alike paying their respects.
