Darryn Peterson Says Creatine Likely Caused Cramping Issues During Freshman Season at Kansas

Darryn Peterson, a top NBA draft prospect, revealed that doctors believe his recurring cramping problems during his freshman season at Kansas were likely linked to his use of creatine.

The 6-foot-6 guard noted that he had never taken creatine before college. However, after undergoing medical tests following a two-week break, doctors found that his natural creatine levels were already elevated. “I’d never taken it before [he got to college],” Peterson said. “But after the season I took two weeks off and they did tests which showed my baseline level was already high. So, they said when I dosed, it must’ve made the levels unsafe.”

The cramping issues had a significant impact on his season, forcing him to miss 11 games and leave several others early.

Despite these setbacks, Peterson remains one of the top prospects for the 2026 NBA Draft, currently ranked No. 2 overall on ESPN’s Top 100 list.
